A Journey through domestic life across cultures and time

FORT WAYNE, IN (NWPR) – Curated by the FWMoA Teen Council: Gwen Burch, Brooklynn Deane, Paikea Early-Aden, Julia Valcarcel, Promyse Williams, and Sophia Zhang, “Echoes of Home: Playing House with Works from the Collection” goes on view at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art on Saturday, May 24, and runs through July 27, 2025.

What is home? Is it merely a cozy, safe place where we rest? Or is it the laughter shared over a favorite meal with loved ones? Home extends beyond its physical walls — it’s woven into our daily routines, treasured memories, and meaningful relationships.

From quiet moments of relaxation and connection to the hard work that keeps a household thriving, domestic life has always inspired creativity. Through visual art, we see the myriad ways spaces, objects, and experiences—both solitary and communal—transform a house into a true home.

This exhibition invites you to explore the concept of domesticity across different eras and cultures. Experience the artists’ unique yet universally relatable visions through works that range from an everyday kitchen phone call to a peaceful escape in the countryside. Featured artists include Milton Avery, Katja Oxman, Wendy Red Star, and Carrie Mae Weems, each offering a window into the diverse tapestry of home life.
